While it’s not as well-known or as high as some other peaks in the Andes, it offers a moderate climb and stunning natural beauty at the high altitude. My name is Vidal, with large experience climbing mountains in the Andes, in the following post I am going to share with you some of my experience climbing one of the most famous peak in Cordillera Vilcanota, Qampa Mountain Climb experience.

What is Qampa Mountain?

Qampa stands at around 5,500 meters (18,000 feet) above sea level, making it a formidable peak but more accessible than the higher mountains in the region like Ausangate or Salkantay. From the peak of this mountain, you will have stunning views of the entire Vilcanota range with Ausangate as its highest peak. 2 Day Qampa Mountain Climbing

Complete 2-Day Jampa Mountain Climbing Itinerary

A 2-Day Jampa Mountain Climb is ideal for climbers who want to combine the ascent with some acclimatization and trekking time, allowing for a more gradual and enjoyable experience. This itinerary starts with a drive from Cusco to Pacchanta and will incorporate a base camp at the foot of Jampa to ensure safety and proper acclimatization before attempting the summit.

DAY 1: Cusco – Pacchanta – Ausangate 7 Lakes – Base Camp

Our adventure to Jampa Mountain Climb will start with a pick up at 6:00am from your hotel, then we drive for 3 hours to reach Tinke town where we have shot stop, here you will have chance to buy some items that you could need the next two days, after, we continue driving to get to Pacchanta village 4,200 m (13,779 feet). Here we meet our trekking team and prepare for the hike.We start hiking by ascending for 2 hours to reach the 7 Lakes of Ausangate, a spectacular place to explore and admire the different lagoons, you team will prepare our lunch beside one of the lake. Enjoy the delicious lunch with a stunning view of the mountains.Then, we hike another 2 hours to reach our base camp 4,780 meters (15,682 feet) where our team will set up all our tents for us. After have enjoyed the tea time, your mountain guide will provide you all the details concerning the climb of the next day. Spend the night there.

DAY 2: Base Camp – Qampa Summit – Base Camp – Pacchanta – Cusco

This is the most challenging day during our Qampa Mountain Climbing tour , our team will wake you up around 3:00am with a hot coca tea to boast you for the next hours, after a light breakfast, we will hike for an hour to reach the moraine at 5,000 meters, then climb up another hour to get the glacier where we start climbing, you will put on all the climbing gear, this section will take about 1,30 hours to reach the summit, there is a section which is a bit of steep but not difficult.Once you summited the peak, you will have spectacular view, take a moment to admire the immense beauty from above, feel the tranquility and relax. Then, you will make you way back to base camp, after getting your lunch, you will hike down to Pacchanta for 2 hours, soak at the hot springs and board the bust to Cusco.
