Ausangate Trek Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Tinke – Trailhead

The adventure in the Ausangate Trek 5 Days starts with the pick-up from your hotel around 5:00 am and a drive in our private transport to Tinke, a small village located in the high Andes. We stop here to buy the last items that you could need for the next days. After, we continue our drive to reach the trailhead where we will meet with our trekking team.

Then, you’ll walk through beautiful Andean farmland and traditional Quechua villages, giving you a glimpse into rural life in the region. After about 8 km of hiking, you’ll arrive at Upis campsite, located at the base of Mount Ausangate, with its impressive snow-capped peak looming above. Enjoy the Andean lunch prepared by our professional chef, Later you can hike to the Upisqocha lagoon or rest in your tent, also you can relax in the hot springs. The night will be cold, but the surrounding scenery is stunning, setting the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Upis – Arapa Pass – Pucaqocha – Ausangate Qocha

This day takes you through more varied terrain, with a climb up for about two hours to Arapa Pass (4,850 meters), offering incredible views of the glaciers and mountains around. After reaching the pass, you’ll descend slightly before passing Puca Qocha Lake, known for its vibrant turquoise colour. The lunch spot is near this lake, surrounded by rugged mountains and a peaceful atmosphere. Walk through herds of alpacas and llamas, and observe the local traditions in the high mountains. After lunch, we continue walking up for another two hours to reach the Ausangate Pass; here you will get a spectacular view of the 3 lagoons formed by the water from the glacier of Ausangate Mountain. Close your eyes and feel the powerful energy of this deity, and you can understand why locals venerate this mountain. Finally you will descend for 30 minutes to get the campsite set up near the Ausangate Lake, where you will spend the night. It’s a moderate day with some steep sections, but the views are absolutely worth the effort.

Day 3: Ausangate Qocha – Palomani Pass – Machuraqay – Sorapata

This is the most challenging day along this trek. You will wake up early and enjoy the energetic Andean breakfast, then hike up for 2 hours to reach the highest pass along this 5-day trek, Palomani Pass, 5,200 meters (17,060 ft). The ascent is very steep, especially at the last section; however, with the right rest, you can manage to get there. Palomani Pass offers breathtaking views of 360º, where you can see both the valley and the sacred Apu Ausangate, which is the most prominent feature you’ll see from this pass. It towers at 6,384 meters (20,944 feet) and is the highest peak in the region.After crossing the pass, you will often descend towards stunning red and turquoise lakes, which are a great photo opportunity.We will have lunch next to these lakes, have a bit of rest, and we will continue hiking towards Sorapata Camp; it will be 2 hours of trekking through lagoons and snow mountains, which will amaze you with their beautiful landscapes. Finally we will arrive at our camp, where you will get the happy hour and dinner. rest for the night.

Day 4: Sorapata – Qampa Pass – Pachispata – 7 Lakes – Pacchanta

After breakfast, we begin the morning with a steep 2.5-hour ascent to Qampa Pass (5080 m / 16,698 ft), where we will be surrounded by panoramic views of glaciers and towering mountains. The ascents will be very entertaining due to you seeing some of the most incredible snow peaks. On the right, we will admire Mariposa Mountain, and on the left, the majestic Ausangate Mountain—truly breathtaking views of the Andes. Also, you will see the Tres Picos; these are very towering snowy mountains. Along the way, we will stop for lunch at a unique viewpoint behind the famous Seven Lagoons (7 Lagunas), offering a stunning backdrop for our meal. In the afternoon we hike through the Seven Lakes of Ausangate, beautiful spots where you will be amazed with the crystal water, hike through herds of alpacas, and see some wildlife such as Vicuñas and Chinchillas. Finally, we arrive at Pacchanta villages, where you can relax in the hot springs and celebrate that you’re done with this challenging trek. Enjoy your dinner and rest. After lunch, we will descend for 2 hours to Otorongococha (4,670 m / 15,321 ft), where we will camp for the night. After a long morning of hiking, we’ll have the opportunity to explore the area, which offers stunning mountain vistas and picturesque lakes.

Day 5: Pacchanta – Bus Station – Tinke – Cusco

This is the final day of your Ausangate Trek five-day tour. You will enjoy a typical breakfast prepared by our team, also have a celebration after having walked 4 days in the mountains, and finally we will board our bus and drive back to Cusco. Our tour will finish at the door of your hotel, and we will say goodbye.
